Our Vision

SLA seeks to unite families with the same core values because value alignment allows for deep relationships.

At SLA we are striving to create a sense of community and belonging among the adults where compassion, love, grace, and forgiveness are offered freely and practiced continually; and where easy offense, backbiting, gossiping, and exclusion are absent.

We are also working hard to create that same sense of community and belonging for our children where they can practice the same principles, and where we can all grow in building our characters to become more Christ-like.

We seek opportunities to be courteous (some examples include offering to carry a heavy load, holding a door open, including younger kids, greet moms by name and thank them for teaching, speaking kindly of one another, etc.)

We speak positively about others; we work through relationships to find peace. We do not joke by putting others down. We do not label or insult people. We are friendly with boys and girls alike, of all ages.

We’re an SLA-Family! We love and include everyone. In short, we are all exerting our efforts to create a Zion-like feel among all members in our group.

It is our goal to focus on creating experiences at SLA that can be best done in a group.

There are many activities and subjects that are best done independently. At SLA we hope to really encourage the activities where a group setting is needed and relationships can be developed.

We are influenced by TJED, Charlotte Mason, and Well-Educated Heart.

Our Foundation

SLA is not just guided by Christian values—it is built on them. Christ is the solid ground beneath everything we do. Every class, every activity, every decision rests on that foundation.

What does it look like to be a part of our community?

Member Requirements

Each family is required to pay a one time membership fee of $60. Then a semester fee of $150 per family is paid before the start of each semester. And $5 per t-shirt for the school year (The t-shirt is expected to be worn at SLA by everyone 3+). We meet 10 weeks in the fall and 10 weeks in the Winter/ Spring on Fridays 8:50-12:00pm. Attendance and punctuality are essential for creating a good experience, a close community, and unifying culture. We expect our members to  try their very best to not miss a Friday while SLA is in session. Each mama (or dad or grandparent) will lead mentor at least one quality class a semester and be the official co-mentor in 1-2 other classes. In order for SLA to function, we need a mentor from each family to complete their responsibility. Find substitutes for any missed classes. (see handbook for more details)

What do classes look like?

Classes are taught by the moms and sometimes dads of SLA. We have an opening gathering time led by the youth on the student council; then a homeroom which consists of kids grouped by age which focuses on building relationships and Christlike characters/ values/ morals (usually literature based); then a youth led 30 min class where youth ages 12 and older teach classes for the younger kids while moms get to go to a Mama's class; lastly we have an elective hour where Mentors teach a class based on personal interest and passions and kids sign up based on interest (ages mixing more). Some examples of classes we've had include: cooking, archery, creative writing, theater, art, and various science topics.

Optional opportunities for youth:

Running for and serving on a youth council, planning and running events, teaching younger students in a class during youth led time, going to dances, service projects, youth retreats,  temple trips and other member initiated activities. In the future we hope to provide the opportunity for putting on full theater productions.  (see handbook for more details)

Optional but fun opportunities for the rest of the family

Mama's nights, Family BBQs, Family Dances, Showcases, Park hangouts, Graduation ceremonies, Service Projects, Temple trips, and other member initiated activities.  (see handbook for more details)

Our Community

SLA is more than a co-op—it’s a family. Parents find encouragement and connection, children find belonging and purpose, and together we create friendships that last well beyond the classroom.

By joining SLA, you are stepping into a supportive network of families who share your values and are committed to walking the homeschool path together.

Our Commitment
We are committed to honoring Christ, serving families, and raising the next generation of leaders. Our bylaws and handbook guide the details, but our heart is simple: to glorify God by building a community where families learn, lead, and grow in service.
